It’s fun to go on a day trip. You don’t want to be weighed down with a heavy bag. But you do want to have everything you need. Here are our top tips on what to take on a day trip:
  • Take enough money with you, including cash in the local currency. Some places may not accept credit cards.
  • Keep valuables like your passport and money in a bag like a bumbag that you can wear under your clothes.
  • Make sure the batteries for your phone, camera, mp3 player and other electronics are charged.
  • Write down emergency numbers for the country you’re in and take them with you everywhere you go.
  • You might also want to take: maps for where you’re going, a pair of sunglasses, a bottle of water, lip balm and sun lotion.
  • If you’re going to spend a day in a city, you might want to take a guidebook and a phrase book with you.
  • In the countryside, it’s good to have a small torch and snacks like energy bars, which are light and easy to carry.
  • You never know for certain what the weather is going to be like. So it’s a good idea to be ready for anything.
  • Wear and/or carry layers of clothes so you can wear less when it’s warm and more when it's cold.
  • Take an umbrella or a rain jacket. If there’s a chance of heavy rain, you might want to carry both.
  • A rain jacket is often a better option, especially if you’re going to be taking part in outdoor activities. It’s not easy to hold an umbrella when you’re climbing a mountain!
