Use coupons to save money in the US

The next time you visit the US you can save lots of money by using coupons and loyalty cards to get discounts at your favourite shops, restaurants, theme parks and more. Here’s how to do it:

• Look online! There are web sites that have hundreds of free coupons. 8coupons.com tells you about special offers at popular shops, cafes and restaurants. And coupons.com allows you to print out coupons for lots of different products.  

• Collect coupons! While in the US you can find coupons everywhere - at hotels, tourist offices, in the mailbox (if you're staying at somebody's house) and in newspapers and magazines.

• Ask the right questions! Some shops have Bonus Coupon Days, when their coupons are worth twice or three times as much as usual. You should ask each shop what discounts they have and how you can get them.

• Get organized! Organize your coupons by category (food, clothes, entertainment) and don’t forget to use them before they expire.

• Do your research! Use the Internet to compare prices and find discounts for all the places you plan to visit.

• Bargain! Don’t be scared to ask for a cheaper price for things you want to buy, especially at markets and in small boutiques.

Almost 80% of people in the US use coupons and save more than $3 billion a year. There’s no reason why you can’t use them too.
