Stratford-upon-Avon is a lovely town in the county of Warwickshire, in central England. Stratford is most famous for being where the playwright William Shakespeare was born and died. You can visit the house where Shakespeare was born in 1564, the houses in which his mother and wife grew up and his burial place in Holy Trinity Church. It's also a great idea to catch a play by the Bard at one of the three Royal Shakespeare Company theatres.
But Stratford is a lot more than just Shakespeare! The town centre is full of beautiful half-timbered houses and it's lovely to row a boat down the gently flowing River Avon. If you like history, pay a visit to The Falstaff Experience. Set in a 500-year-old house, this museum tells you all about the history of the town, including the plague years, Stratford during the English Civil War (1642-1651) and witchcraft during the 16th century. The house is also one of the most haunted in England!
