Daniel speaks
Have the pupils listen to the podcast "Daniel Radcliffe's growing up – but he's still Harry Potter" In the podcast, Carrie talks about the Harry Potter books and you and your pupils can listen to interview excerpts with Daniel Radcliffe. A lot of what Dan says has to do with growing up and the pressure of success. The questions below will help you to start a discussion about the Harry Potter stories, the pressures of success and being famous.
1. The Harry Potter books and movies have been a world-wide phenomenon. Are your pupils fans of the books or the movies? Discuss what the pupils like or don't like about the Harry Potter stories. Why have the stories been so successful?
2. As the leading star of the movies, there's a lot of pressure on Daniel Radcliffe to be successful. Discuss how he deals with that pressure (2:24). What strategies do your pupils use to deal with similar pressure in their own lives?
3. Dan talks about the difference between his "normal" self and the person he is in interviews. Have your pupils pretend they are famous celebrities who give interviews. What kinds of things might they want to talk about in interviews, and what details do they think would be better not to talk about? Do they think there's a difference between what their fans would want them to talk about and what information they want to reveal?
