Teen lesbian wins $35,000 from school
A teenage lesbian has won $35,000 from school officials for discrimination. Constance McMillen, 18, brought a lawsuit against Itawamba County School District in Mississippi earlier this year because they didn’t allow her to bring her girlfriend to her prom.
The school officials later told Constance she could bring her girlfriend to her prom. But when she arrived, she found out they’d invited her to a fake prom – and that the real prom was happening somewhere else. The district has also agreed to have laws to stop future discrimination.
Constance told reporters, "I am really excited that it is over and we won. I won't ever get my prom back but it's worth it if it changes things at my school.”
