Teen driver deaths rise
22.02.2012
More US teens die in car accidents than any other way each year. And the number of teens killed in accidents has increased for the first time in eight years.
These are just some of the findings of a new study by the Governors Highway Safety Association, which found that 211 16- and-17-year-olds died in car accidents in the US in the first six months of 2011, an increase of 11% compared to the first half of 2010.
Allan Williams, who did the study, says, “States should not accept these deaths as something that cannot be prevented. More work can and should be done to save teen lives.”
Other studies have found that almost half of US teens have talked on the phone while driving and that teens are almost twice as likely to die on the road at night.
