Teen against transgender girl scouts
A teen girl is making a lot of people angry by protesting against a rule that allows transgender boys to become girl scouts. Taylor, 14, is a member of a youth organization for girls called the Girl Scouts of Colorado. She is not happy that last month the organization allowed a 7-year-old boy called Bobby Montoya, who lives as a girl, to become a member too.
“I think they care more about promoting the desires of a small handful of people than they do for my safety and the safety of my friends and sister girl scouts,” says Taylor, who has accused the organization of breaking its own safety rules. She has asked other girl scouts to join her in protest by refusing to sell cookies to raise money for the organization.
However, the Girl Scouts of Colorado have released a statement, saying, “If a child identifies as a girl and the child’s family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a girl scout.” Their vice president, Rachelle Trujillo, has added, “If a child is living as a girl, that’s good enough for us. We don’t require any proof of gender.”
