Police catch the Barefoot Burglar
20.07.2010
Police have caught the teenager known as the Barefoot Burglar after chasing him for more than two years. Colton Harris-Moore, 19, got his nickname for committing burglaries while barefoot and leaving white chalk footprints behind. Police caught him while he was getting ready to sail a boat he had stolen off Harbour Island in the Bahamas.
Colton, from Camano Island in Washington, is a hero to many people. He has thousands of fans on Facebook. Filmmakers are making a film about him. And his mother says she’s proud of him. But FBI agent Steve Dean says he’s not a hero but a criminal. "I think it’s very sad. People have been making him a hero when he's hurt so many hard-working people, broken into homes, stolen property and ripped off businesses.”
Police suspect Colton of stealing at least five airplanes, two cars and a boat and breaking into more than 100 homes in the US and Canada. They will probably send him to jail for a very long time.
