Loved ones say goodbye to gay teen
31.10.2011
Family and friends have said goodbye to a gay teenager, who killed himself after being bullied for years. Jamie Hubley, 15, had depression over being bullied at school in his home city of Ottawa in Canada. He wrote a suicide note online before ending his life earlier this month.
This is just the latest in a series of gay teen suicides in Canada and the US that have resulted from bullying. Teens from both countries have put tribute songs and videos to Jamie online. And hundreds of people went to his funeral, where family and friends talked about how he tried to help others.
Jamie’s friend Michaela Dorans talked about the club Jamie started at their school. She said, "I think Jamie would be happy to see that things are going to change for kids like him. I think people now understand how much this has affected everyone. Everyone's come together to try to get over this. He will help a lot of people."
