Is loud music making teens deaf?
28.08.2010
Teens could be going deaf from listening to loud music. A study by the Brigham and Women's Hospital in the US has found that the number of teens with a hearing problem has increased by almost a third in the last 15 years.
One in five US teens today has some hearing loss, often caused by listening to loud music. Experts are now asking teens to turn down the volume on their music players and wear earplugs at concerts.
Dr. Josef Shargorodsky of Brigham and Women's Hospital told Reuters Health, "Teenagers really underestimate how much noise they are exposed to. Even slight hearing loss may lead to differences in language development and learning."
