Barefoot Bandit pleads guilty
01.07.2011
The criminal known as the Barefoot Bandit has pled guilty to seven criminal charges. He has also agreed to give the US government any money he makes from his story so they can give it the victims of his many crimes.
Colton Harris-Moore, 20, became an online hero after he escaped from a halfway house in Washington in April 2008 and spent two years running from the police. He committed more than a hundred break-ins and stole at least five airplanes after teaching himself how to fly. He sometimes left bare footprints behind for the police, which is how he became known as the Barefoot Bandit.
The police finally caught Colton after he crash-landed a plane in the Bahamas last July. Now filmmakers are making a film about his life but Colton won’t make any money from it. Prosecutor Jenny Durkan told reporters, “Mr. Harris-Moore's flight from justice is over. While we cannot stop him from telling his story, we can make sure he never sees a dime for his crimes.”
Colton will be sentenced for the seven charges, which include burglary and gun possession, in October. He also faces other charges and could go to jail for more than ten years.
