U2 supports Burmese leader
21.08.2009
Irish rock band U2 is famous for its political campaigns. And singer Bono let everyone know how he feels about one political situation at a recent concert in London. U2 were playing in front of
88,000 people at Wembley Stadium. But Bono wasn't going to let all the excitement get in the way of serious issues. He asked the crowd to remember the Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who has just been given a longer prison sentence by Burma's military dictatorship. Aung San Suu Kyi has been under house arrest ever since she won the 1990 elections. Bono said, "An extraordinary woman has spent 20 years under house arrest. I send a prayer from London to Burma for her safety." The crowd then put on masks of the Burmese leader and the band played "Walk On", a song written about Aung San Suu Kyi from the 2000 album All That You Can't Leave Behind.
