Teenager is world's shortest man
26.06.2011
A teenager from a poor family in the Philippines is the world's shortest man.
Officials from the Guinness World Records travelled to the home of Junrey Balawing on the southern island of Mindanao this month to measure him. On his 18th birthday, they gave him a certificate to say that at 60 centimetres tall, he is the shortest man alive.
Junrey stopped growing when he was two because of a hormonal imbalance and has problems speaking and walking. The people from his town celebrated his birthday with him and gave him a cake, balloons and money. His father told them, "Thank you to all of you for supporting my son, the world's shortest man."
The teenager is four centimetres taller than the shortest man in history, Gul Mohammed from India, who died in 1997.
