Singer from Pakistan helps country recover from floods
26.08.2010
Singer Salman Ahmad from Pakistan is trying to help the 20 million people affected by massive floods in his home country. He is writing a song called “Khwab”, which means dream in the Pakistani language Urdu, to raise money for his country. He hopes to sing the song with singers from Pakistan and the Western world.
Salman told the BBC World Service that this is a chance for people to change the future. “There are more than 100 million people under the age of 25 in Pakistan,” said Salam. “They can go two possible ways into the future. They can follow their dreams or they can give in to the extremists who want them to blow themselves up. If they feel that the world cares for them, it could change their future. This is the time to win hearts and minds."
The Pakistan floods that started last month have killed about 2,000 people and destroyed more than a million homes.
