Laura's dream

Laura Dekker, from Holland, dreams of becoming the youngest person to sail solo around the world. But she may not be allowed to try. Laura is only 13 years old.

The Dutch Council for Child Protection is trying to stop Laura, because they believe sailing around the world is too dangerous for 13-year-old girl. Laura's father, Dick Dekker, supports his daughter and has asked that she be allowed to miss two years of school. A Dutch court will decide tomorrow whether Laura will go for the world record or go back to school.

However, even if the court says no, that may not be the end of the story. Since Laura was born in New Zealand, she may try to get a New Zealand passport and start her journey from there.
