Kenya’s politicians can't go to bed
07.05.2009
Women in the East African nation of Kenya are very worried about the political situation in their country. So they are banning sex for seven days to encourage change. In early 2008, there was violence in Kenya after controversial elections and around 1,500 people were killed. Now, President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga aren't getting on, so people are afraid there could be violence again. Even the Prime Minister's wife, Ida Odinga, is supporting the sex ban. "There are many women who are suffering rape and hunger," she told the BBC. "But the leadership is not thinking about the common person. They are bickering about who should be the leader of what." The campaign aims to encourage politicians to talk about real issues, and get men around Kenya to demand change. Many men don't think the sex ban will achieve anything. But others are hopeful. "Great decisions are made during pillow talk," said Patricia Nyaundi, one of the organizers of the campaign.
