Google Maps help solve crime
24.06.2009
It has already caused controversy in several countries like the USA and Britain. But soon, Google Street View will be coming to Germany. Google Maps is a cool way of finding a street online, or for checking out what a neighbourhood looks like from above. Street View goes even further and lets you see a place at ground level - as if you were standing on the street! Some people say this could damage people's right to privacy and could help criminals study an area before committing a crime. But in Holland, Street View is now being used to solve a crime! A 14-year-old boy who was robbed in the town of Groningen last year spotted the suspects on Google Street View. "This is unique," a police spokesman told the BBC. "The picture was taken just moments before the crime." Police used the photo to find the suspects, who have now been arrested. Maybe criminals will now complain to Google about their privacy rights!
