From mobile phone to bookstores, girl's novel is a hit in Japan
"Bunny", who lives in Tokyo, wrote the story on her mobile phone in short instalments of about 200 words each. Then she uploaded it to a website, where other people could download it and read it on their own mobiles. This form of writing, called keitai, is very popular in Japan.
Soon, so many people were reading her story, about a high-school romance, that a publisher decided to print the book as a paperback. The Los Angeles Times reports that in less than a year, the book has made more than $600,000. And Bunny may keep writing. "I'd like to think about whether I'd like to become a professional author," she says. But right now, she has other things on her mind - like studying for school exams.
