Transsexual teen in Miss England beauty pageant

A transsexual teen has become the first to compete in the Miss England beauty pageant.
Jackie Green, 18, from Leeds in England became the UK’s youngest transsexual after she had a sex-change operation in Thailand on her 16th birthday. She had been living as a girl since the age of ten and had gone to the US at age 12 to get hormone treatment to stop her male puberty.
The teen was at a London audition for the reality TV show Britain’s Next Top Model when modelling scouts, who had no idea she was born a male, told her she should enter the Miss England pageant. Jackie says, “Miss England is a prestigious competition. I'd love to win. I've as good a chance as anyone."
Before becoming a girl, Jackie tried to kill herself five times because she was bullied. Her mum got a second mortgage on her house so she could pay for Jackie's operation, which cost £28,000. "I can never thank my mum enough," Jackie says, "she saved my life.”
