Teens dying for a tan
15.07.2010
More than a quarter of teens in the UK get sun burnt on purpose to try to get a tan. Almost a third of them have never used sun cream. And more than half of them don’t think the sun in their country is very powerful.
These are some of the findings of the Teenage Cancer Trust, which has just started a campaign called Shunburn to warn teens about the danger of getting burnt by the sun. The campaign’s spokesman Simon Davis says that getting sun burnt can result in skin problems and even skin cancer later in life.
“We need to make young people more aware of the dangers of cancer,” says Simon. “If we can stop just one young person from getting skin cancer when they’re older, then this year’s Shunburn campaign will have been worth it.”
