Teen becomes youngest ever to climb Seven Summits
03.06.2011
A British teenager has become the youngest person ever to climb the highest mountains on the world’s seven continents.
George Atkinson, 16, from London started climbing the mountains, known as the Seven Summits, in 2005. He climbed Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro, at age 11 and last week he reached the top of Mount Everest, which is the highest mountain in the world.
The teen broke the record that Johnny Collinson made earlier this year at the age of 17. However, George might not hold the record for long. US teenager Jordan Romero, who became the youngest person ever to climb Mount Everest last year at the age of 13, has climbed six of the seven summits and plans to climb his seventh summit, Mount Vinson Massif in Antarctica, this year.
