No royal dream for teen
11.05.2011
The royal wedding was no fairytale dream for Estibalis Chavez, who went on a hunger strike and flew to London twice in the hope of meeting the royal couple.
Estibalis, 19, from Mexico wanted to go to the royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton so much that she went on a hunger strike outside the British Embassy in Mexico City for 16 days in the hope of getting an invitation from the royal couple. She didn’t get an invitation but she did find a politician to pay for her flight to London.
However, when Estibalis arrived in London, immigration officials didn’t allow her into the country because she didn’t have enough money to stay at a hotel. She returned to London a second time but officials again refused to allow her in. Estibalis has told reporters that she now regrets going on a hunger strike. “They didn't let me enter because they thought I was crazy. If I hadn't gone on the hunger strike, maybe I could have entered England."
