Millions steal music
29.12.2010
Around 7.7 million people in the UK illegally downloaded music this year. Research by the British Recorded Music Industry (BPI) found that people there downloaded 1.2 billion songs for free, costing the music industry £219 million.
The research found that Internet users in the UK didn’t pay for three out of four songs they downloaded and that there are more websites than ever that allow people to download music for free.
Now Geoff Taylor of BPI is asking officials to make new laws to stop illegal downloading. He said, "It is a parasite that is costing musicians millions and could stop a generation of talented young people making a career in music."
