Facebook helps UK teens report predators
05.08.2010
Teen Facebook users in the UK have a new application that allows them to report users they think might be online predators. Ads for the application called ClickCEOP are on the pages of all users aged between 13 and 18.
The application allows teens to report people to an organization that protects children called the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP). Jim Gamble from CEOP told reporters, “We know from speaking to offenders that a visible deterrent could protect young people online.”
The organization has been asking for the application since last October when a man called Peter Chapman murdered 17-year-old Ashleigh Hall in Durham in England. Peter first met Ashleigh on Facebook and told her he was a teenage boy. He went to jail for 35 years.
