England may have world's only gladiator graves
Experts may have found the world's only gladiator cemetery under a city in England. Archaeologists have found 80 skeletons from between 1,600 and 1,900 years ago on a site under York. They say all of the skeletons are of big men who had big muscles and many of them died from injuries from weapons or animal bites.
The lead archaeologist on the site, Kurt Hunter-Mann, told reporters they didn’t know for sure that the dead men were gladiators from Rome but that it is very possible. "One of the most significant piece of evidence is a large carnivore bite mark - probably from a lion, tiger or bear,” he said. A documentary about the site will be on British TV later this month.
