Police tell teens not to put their photos on Facebook
02.06.2010
Police in Australia are asking all teens to remove their profile pictures from Facebook after the murder of a teenage girl there. They believe an online stalker murdered 18-year-old Nona Belomesoff from Sydney earlier this month. They say Nona agreed to meet the man at a railway station because he said he could help her start her dream career, working with animals.
Sydney detective John Kerlatec is asking teens to allow only their friends to see their photos and private information so that the same thing doesn’t happen to them. He says people like Nona’s killer search the Internet for information about teens, which they then use to gain their trust. He tells teens, “Don’t have a photo of yourself on Facebook. Treat each person you talk to like a complete stranger.”
