Wesley Snipes ordered to jail
A US judge has ordered actor Wesley Snipes to go to jail for tax crimes.
Wesley, who starred in the Blade trilogy, made more than $37 million between 1999 and 2004. In April 2008 a judge found him guilty of failing to file tax returns in 1999, 2000 and 2001 and sentenced him to three years in jail.
Since then, the actor has been fighting the sentence and trying to get a new trial. However, last week a judge in Florida called William Terrell Hodges refused to give Wesley a new trial and said that it’s time for him to start his jail sentence. The judge said, “The defendant had a fair trial. The time has come for the sentence to be enforced.”
However, Wesley is still hoping to stay out of jail, at least for a bit longer. His lawyer Daniel Meachum has told reporters that the actor plans to appeal against the sentence at the Supreme Court, which is the highest court in the US.
