The Hurt Locker producer banned from the Academy Awards for breaking the rules
His film won the Academy Award for best picture. But producer Nicolas Chartier was still banned from going to this year’s Academy Awards because he broke the Academy’s rules. Nicolas sent e-mails to voters with the Academy asking them to give the award for best film to The Hurt Locker and not to the biggest film of all time, Avatar.
It is against the Academy’s rules for filmmakers to ask voters to vote for their films. And that’s why Nicolas was not allowed to go to the award show in Los Angeles on 7 March. He has already said he’s sorry for sending the e-mails and said it was the result of his “ignorance of the rules and plain stupidity”.
