The end of REM
US rock band REM are splitting up after playing together for 31 years. They have told fans, “We have decided to call it a day as a band. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening.” Singer Michael Stipe added, “I hope our fans realize this wasn't an easy decision; but all things must end, and we wanted to do it right, to do it our way.”
The band were originally made up of Michael Stipe,
guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills and Bill Berry, who left the
band in 1997. They became famous in the 1990s for songs like "Losing My Religion" and "Everybody Hurts" and made 15 albums, including their last album, Collapse Into Now, which they released in March.
