The Beach Boys to release 40-year-old album
09.09.2011
Beach Boys fans will soon be able to listen to an album that the band made more than 40 years ago.
In 1967 the band, which includes three brothers, their cousin and their friend, stopped working on an album called The Smile Sessions after their main songwriter and singer, Brian Wilson, had an emotional breakdown. This October, they will release their original recordings for the first time.
One of the band’s singers, Mike Love, says his cousin Brian did some of his best work during those recordings. “Brian was at his creative peak. I'm unaware of anything that comes close in pop music.”
He added that Brian wrote four of the songs inside a sandbox in his living room, set a bucket on fire while recording the song “Fire”, and recorded the sounds of The Beatles singer Paul McCartney eating a carrot on the song “Vegetables”.
