Sex Pistols most valuable record
20.05.2011
Go through the old vinyl records in your grandmother's attic. If you’re lucky, you might find one worth thousands of pounds!
A magazine called Record Collector has made a list of the world’s most valuable vinyl records. Top of the list is a rare recording of “God Save The Queen” by the English punk band the Sex Pistols. A record label called A&M Records produced the song but dropped the band before releasing it and then destroyed most of the copies. If you come across the record now, you could sell it for about £8,000.
Other valuable vinyl records include the album Please Please Me by The Beatles, which is worth about £3,500 and The Rolling Stones self-titled first album, which could get you about £1,000. Record Collector editor Ian McCann says, “There is something of an investment market in mint-condition copies of iconic albums. The problem is people love them and play them to death, making it increasingly difficult to find them in mint condition."
