Rihanna defends Man Down video
20.06.2011
Pop queen Rihanna has defended the video for her latest single, "Man Down", after parents asked a US TV channel to stop playing it because it shows a man being shot in the head.
The Parents Television Council in America have called the video disturbing and asked the TV channel BET to stop showing it. However, BET says it will continue to play the video because it meets all of its guidelines.
Rihanna, who was attacked by ex-boyfriend Chris Brown in early 2009, says that just because the video includes a violent scene doesn’t mean that it will cause people to do violent things. "I've been abused in the past and you don't see me running around killing people."
The 23-year-old has also defended her video on Twitter, on which she has written, “You can't hide your kids from society, or they'll never learn how to adapt. This is the real world!"
