James Cameron returns with Avatar
James Cameron hasn’t made a big film since he directed the 1997 film Titanic. It became the highest-grossing film of all time, making more than $1.8 billion around the world. His first big film in 12 years, Avatar, is coming to cinemas in December. And thousands of people got a chance to watch part of it at cinemas earlier this month. Avatar is a 3D fantasy film starring Sam Worthington and Sigourney Weaver that happens in an alien world. James used amazing special effects to make the alien world feel real. On 21 August people in 102 cinemas in the US and hundreds more around the world had a chance to watch 15 minutes of footage from the first half of the film. Many people told reporters that they liked the film but were not happy with the 3D effects. One cinema-goer, Seb King, went to the first screening in England, which was at the BFI IMAX in London. He told the BBC, “I felt sick watching the 3D footage.” Avatar cost about $200 million to make.
