Bollywood pays Hollywood for film rights
Many Bollywood filmmakers have re-made Hollywood films. But now for the first time, a Bollywood filmmaker has had to pay Hollywood for the rights to the re-make. Bollywood is the name of India’s film industry. An Indian film company called BR Films re-made a 1992 film by the US company 20th Century Fox called My Cousin Vinny. BR called the film Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai, which means This Guy is Fearless in Hindi. People from 20th Century Fox then sued BR, saying they hadn’t agreed to allow them to re-make the film. They didn’t go to court but agreed to a payment of $200,000 from BR Films. This could stop other Bollywood filmmakers from re-making Hollywood films in the future.
