At the annual Academy Awards in Hollywood, the British film The King's Speech won the award for best picture. The star of the film, Colin Firth, also won the best actor award, beating actors like Jeff Bridges (True Grit) and Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network). Altogether, The King's Speech won four awards. In the film, Colin plays the British King George VI, who has to give a very important speech despite having a bad stammer.
Another big winner was Natalie Portman, who won the best actress award for Black Swan. "This is insane," the 29-year-old said. "The real prize would be to get to work with my fellow nominees - I'm so in awe of you!" The Social Network, the film about the website Facebook, won three awards, while Inception, with Leonardo DiCaprio, won four. Actors James Franco and Anne Hathaway hosted the event, which is the 83rd Academy Awards. The Awards are to recognize excellence in the film industry, and are televised live in more than 200 countries.
