Adele is queen of the Grammys
British singer Adele won six Grammy Awards last night in Los Angeles – the most of any performer this year. The ceremony also saw her singing in public for the first time after her throat surgery in autumn. The audience gave her a standing ovation for her performance of "Rolling In The Deep".
But the evening was also a sad one, as musicians and producers mourned the unexpected death of Whitney Houston on Saturday. Whitney was a huge pop star in the 1980s and 90s, and she also had starring roles in a few hit films, including The Bodyguard and Waiting to Exhale.
Jennifer Hudson sang one of Whitney's biggest hits – "I Will Always Love You", from The Bodyguard soundtrack – in memory of the star. Ceremony host LL Cool J opened the show by asking the audience to say a prayer for Whitney. "There is no way around it: we have had a death in the family," he said.
But the show went on. Other big winners were the Foo Fighters, with five awards, and dubstep producer and DJ Skrillex took home three Grammies. "I don't know what to say anymore. This is the most surreal day of my life."
