Taylor Swift likes happy endings
A US teenager is making country music cool. Taylor Swift, 19, was playing the guitar, writing songs and trying to start a music career even before she was a teen. She made her first album when she was 16 and became the biggest selling singer in the US last year. Her second album, Fearless, went straight to Number One in November and has sold more than a million copies this year.
“Love Story” from Fearless
He knelt to the ground and pulled out the ring
And said marry me Juliet…
I talked to your dad, go pick out a white dress
It’s a love story baby, just say yes
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is one of the most famous love stories of all time. In this song Taylor compares her relationship with her boyfriend with the relationship between Romeo and Juliet. But there’s one big difference. In the play from the 1500s Juliet’s father won’t allow her to be with Romeo because their families have been fighting for years. In Taylor’s story, however, her boyfriend asks her father if they can get married and he says yes. Taylor must like happy endings!
