A band famous for singing songs about war and politics have released an album about the way we live today. The three guys in Green Day, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool, have been playing together since 1987 and sold more than 65 million albums. They released their eighth album, 21st Century Breakdown, last May. Billie Joe says the album is about the world we live in "as we question and try to make sense of the selfish manipulation going on around us".
“21 Guns” is the second single from 21st Century Breakdown
Does the pain weigh out the pride
And you look for a place to hide…
You’re in ruins…
Lay down your arms, give up the fight
When an important politician or other official dies, officials sometimes fire 21 guns at their funeral to honour them. Green Day think the world should fire 21 guns to honour all the people who have died in war and then stop the fighting forever. They say war is bad for everyone and that when a soldier kills someone, he kills a part of himself too.
