The new year is almost here. It's time to think about our New Year's resolutions. These are the promises we make ourselves at the beginning of a new year to start good habits – like doing more sport – and and to break bad habits – like watching too much TV. Here we talk about our resolutions and wonder how long it will be before we break them.

Hi! I find the idea of podcasts really great! I don't always get around to listeneing to them immediately - sometimes it's quite some time later. I notice in this one on New Year's resolutions, all the voices are, unfortunately, American English - even if from different parts of the USA. I'm from a British English culture and agree that students - as well as everyone from other English cultures - should endeavour to listen to accents other than their own. Nevertheless, I believe it would certainly have been more inclusive had you chosen speakers with a British accent and another from a former British Colony e.g. South Africa, India etc. or Australia - which is more a mixture of American & South African. The American & Australian are far away from the British accent.
Would it be possible to use a British English speaker when more than one speaker is required? That would be great ... and I'm sure many students of British English would really appreciate that gesture.
I wish you and your team a very HAPPY, HEALTHY, PEACEFUL 2010 filled with lots of joy, fund and may your hopes and wishes be fulfilled.
God bless. Take care.

Dear Pierrette,
Thank you so much for your kind and helpful comment about the podcasts. We want to give our listeners a variety of accents, and for this reason, we do try to use speakers with different accents in each of the podcasts. Our speakers are all members of the Spot on team. We have two American speakers – Rita and me. We also have Toby from England (who was also in the New Year's Resolution episode), Richard, from Australia/England, and Owen, from Ireland.
Thank you so much for your interest in Spot on and Pod on, and I hope you continue to enjoy the podcasts in the future.
Best wishes for 2010,
Carrie and the Spot on team
