Wise girl
16.01.2012
I feel a lot wiser since I got all four of my wisdom teeth out. Wisdom teeth are teeth you get at the back of your mouth, usually in your early teens or late 20s. Unfortunately they often cause problems, by getting infected or pushing on other teeth.
I started having problems with my wisdom teeth a few years ago. Whenever they hurt, I would go to the dentist and he would tell me to get them out. But then they would stop hurting and I would forget all about them.
This year, however, I put wisdom teeth surgery on the top of my list of New Year’s Resolutions. I knew I couldn’t keep putting it off forever! I had surgery last weekend, followed by a very painful week. My face swelled up like a football and I could hardly talk or eat for days.
Now I know that if you get your wisdom teeth out when they are first growing, their roots are small and soft so it doesn’t hurt much at all. But if you wait five or more years, like I did, the roots get bigger and harder, and it hurts a lot more.
About a third of people don’t have any wisdom teeth and lots of people have wisdom teeth that don’t cause any problems. But if you’re like me and your dentist tells you to get them out, please listen to him and do it sooner rather than later. That’s definitely the wise thing to do!
