The secret lives of pets
02.05.2011
Pets. We live with them. We love them. But we have no idea what they’re really thinking.
Take my cat, Miss Marple, for example. OK, she’s not really my cat. She’s my neighbour’s cat but she sleeps and eats in my house and follows me around. So I guess in her mind, she’s my cat or rather, I’m her human.
I know when Miss Marple is hungry or thirsty because she miaows at me and glares at me and stands over her bowl until I fill it. But the rest of the time, I have no idea what she’s thinking or feeling.
Sometimes she does things that I don’t understand. She stares into space, as if she’s looking at something that I can’t see. Some people say that cats can see ghosts. If that’s true, there must be a ghost living over my left shoulder.
Today Miss Marple did something that made me really mad. She killed a mouse and brought it into the house. I screamed at her but she just rolled around on the floor looking really happy. Maybe she thought I was screaming because I was so excited to have a mouse to eat for dinner.
I’m not sure we’ll ever know what our pets are thinking. But I hope they’re happier than the star of this video, Henri. BTW, the video is in French but has English subtitles.

I agree with Talitha, how tragic! :'(
I haven't got a pet, but sometimes I think pets are cleverer than humans.
