The film in my head
When you read a story, you make a film in your head.
Earlier this year I read Suzanne Collins’ fantastic trilogy The Hunger Games, about a world in which 24 children are forced to fight to the death every year. I imagined the people of District Twelve, where the hero, Katniss, lives, looking too thin because they don’t have enough to eat and dressing in rags because they’re so poor. And I imagined the story world as being very grey and gritty.
This week I saw a trailer for the first Hunger Games film, which is coming to cinemas next March. It was a very jarring experience. The film’s story world looks so much happier than the one Suzanne brings to life in her books. The main characters look healthy and polished, their world is very colorful and the guards of the Capitol, which rules the districts, don’t look intimidating enough.
The more times I watch the trailer, the more I like it. I’m sure it’s going to be a fantastic film. It just won’t be the one that I made in my head. Watch a trailer for The Hunger Games and see what you think:
