Stay hungry, stay foolish
The alarm on my phone went off this morning. I grabbed it and – as I do most mornings before I get out of bed – I sat there checking facebook and the news for a few minutes.
It was a few minutes before I realized that I was reading about the death of the Steve Jobs, the man who helped put that phone in my hand.
Before Steve and his various i-products, I must have actually gotten out of bed before finding out what was going on in the world. Is it bad that I can't really remember what that was like?
The news today is full of stories about how Steve changed computers, phones, technology, our lives. And it's all true, I suppose. But how strange it is to realize how things have changed – that you're in bed, reading on a phone about the death of a man whose thoughts and ideas somehow led to the fact that you'd be in bed reading in that way in the first place.
If you have a few minutes, watch this speech that Steve gave to students at Stanford University a few years ago. The English isn't too difficult – but it is full of wise advice. My favourite is at the end – "stay hungry, stay foolish". Don't stop chasing your dreams.
