Royal wedding overload
Do you know that feeling when you're eating a nice big meal, with multiple courses, and you realize just as the main course is served that you're not really hungry anymore?
I think I've just reached that point with the royal wedding, and it's a bit of a let down.
Ever since Prince William and Catherine Middleton told the world about their engagement, I've been snacking on tid-bits of information – the date, the procession route through London, the wedding guests, the couple's story. And now, right before the main course, the wedding day itself, I'm suddenly full. I'd like to leave the table, and go do something else for awhile.
I get the feeling I'm not the only one who has overindulged. Suddenly I'm seeing posts and articles everywhere asking why we care. Why are we giving so much attention to these two people and are they worthy of it?
I can't really answer these questions except to say that, somehow, someway, I think it's human to care, to be curious about the lives of others – whether they're royals or regular joes.
On the one (royal) hand, I am intrigued by the fairy tale, the pomp and circumstance, and the strange customs. As a descendent of King George II, William has to have his grandmother's formal consent before he's even allowed to marry. He has it of course; she signed the document Elizabeth R (short for "Regina"), and calls her grandson's future wife "Our Trusty and Well-beloved Catherine Elizabeth Middleton".
On the other (regular joe) hand, I'm happy for Kate and Wills, like I am for any two people, friends or strangers, who have found each other. No matter who you are, that's something to celebrate. After all, The Beatles said it best:
So I guess I still have a bit of room for the main course.

I'm excited for the wedding, though, I agree with Carrie. I don't know why there's so much attention on William and Kate. I'll turn my TV on because I want to see London, the church and of course Kate's dress! However, I'm also looking forward to hearing the them say "Yes, I do!". :-)
Oh great! Thanks for the tip! ;-)
