I didn’t find any fleas at the flea market. But I found just about everything else! The Rose Bowl Flea Market is one of the biggest and oldest flea markets in LA County. It has been happening on the second Sunday of every month at the Rose Bowl stadium in Pasadena since 1967 – and is just a few kilometres from my house. I went there last weekend and couldn’t believe my eyes.

There were thousands of sellers and tens of thousands of visitors. There were stalls selling everything from vintage clothes and furniture to cameras and paintings. One of my favourite stalls sold wagon wheels and guns from the Wild West. Another stall sold nothing but old dolls. You could buy snacks like ice cream, hot dogs and roasted nuts. And there was one place where all the stalls were selling new things.

I bought a new red polka dot hat and a big bag of popcorn. I didn’t buy more things because there was too much to choose from. When you go to a flea market, you have to know what you want and how much you want to pay for it. And never be afraid to ask for a lower price. My hat was $25 but I got it for $22. Oh and I also got a new T-shirt for just $2!

So why is a flea market called a flea market? Nobody knows for sure. Some people say it’s because the sellers are as active as fleas. Others say it’s because the people and things at the first markets were infested with fleas. That's a bit yucky but whatever! Flea markets are crazy fun!
