Los Angeles has a Chinatown too
You can find China all over the US. All the big cities here like New York, San Francisco and Chicago have an area called Chinatown, which is full of Chinese people, shops and restaurants. Last week I visited our very own Chinatown in Downtown LA.
The most interesting part of Chinatown is Central Plaza, which was built in the late 1930s and has some of the oldest buildings in the area. Some of them look really unusual, with curved roofs and beautiful decorations. It feels like you’re in a different world. There are also some amazing temples in the area like the Taoist Temple on Yale Street and the Methodist Church on Hill Street.
I started my day visiting the art shops on Chung King Road and then went to Saigon Plaza off Broadway, which is a plaza full of small shops selling clothes, bags, accessories and more. I found out that it’s easy to bargain with the sellers here and it can save you a lot of money. I saw a bag I liked for $17 and told the seller it was too expensive – so she gave it to me for $12. How cool!
After I’d finished shopping, I went to a small Chinese restaurant called Foo Chow. That's the restaurant where Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker fight the bad guys in the first Rush Hour film. It has really cheap food like noodles, fish and chicken, and signed pictures of Jackie on the walls.
