Inside the Grammy Awards
04.02.2010
It’s an exciting time to be in Los Angeles. Stars from all over the world come here every year for two of the biggest award shows, the Grammy Awards, which happened on 31 January, and the Academy Awards, which will happen on 7 March. So what’s it like to go to one of these shows? I was lucky enough to find out two years ago when one of my friends took me to the 50th Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in Downtown LA.
Whenever a big award show happens here, police block off the area around the venue. So you have to have a ticket to go anywhere near it. When my friend and I arrived at the Staples Center, we saw a red carpet on one side of the building and hundreds of people waiting outside. Whenever a star arrived, everyone went crazy. It was so cool! Fans started calling their name while journalists shouted questions at them and photographers took their photos.
Things were a lot calmer inside the building. Everyone looked really rich and like they were used to being around stars. It was cool to sit in the same room as great singers like Kanye West, Alicia Keys and Rihanna and to watch them perform. But there were long breaks between some of the performances and it got a bit boring at times.
I’m happy that I got to experience going to the Grammys at least once. But I found it just as exciting to watch the highlights at home this year. Now I wonder who can help me to get into the Academy Awards...
