Fast food freedom
15.11.2010
I’m a total health freak. I love eating big green salads and fresh fruit. It makes me sad when I see kids eating fast food all the time. But I still don’t think the government has the right to tell people what they can and can’t eat.
Fast food restaurants often give away toys with meals to encourage parents to buy them for their kids. Last week the government in the city of San Francisco banned restaurants from giving out toys with meals that have more than 600 calories – and that includes most fast food meals of course.
A lot of people here in California are angry about this new law and I understand why. I don’t think the government has the right to tell people what to eat. But I do think they have the responsibility to educate people so that they make the right choices.
Instead of stopping restaurants from giving out toys, they should start making schools teach kids how to cook healthy foods so they can make meals that taste better than fast food – and make them feel good too.
