Christmas is a time of year when films become even more important than usual. In houses everywhere you'll hear cries of "It's cold outside - let's go to the cinema!" or "I've eaten far too much to move - maybe there's a good movie on TV." Unfortunately, Christmas is also a time when the quality of films seems to fall faster than a turkey-chopper's axe! If you've seen The Santa Claus 1,2, or 3, Deck the Halls or Jingle All the Way, you'll know what I mean.

This Christmas, Hollywood offers you three big, family-friendly holiday movies for your cinematic pleasure. The third part of the The Chronicles of Narnia is called The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The first two films were pretty entertaining, and I loved the book, so I've hopes this film will be good. Also, Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller are back as retired CIA agent Jack Byrnes and Gaylord "Greg" Focker in Little Fockers. Yes, it's a guilty pleasure, but it's still funny!

My candidate for Christmas turkey, however, is the live action/CGI film version of Yogi Bear. The Yogi Bear Show was a much-loved Hanna-Barbera cartoon from the 1960s. Blogs are full of people moaning about Hollywood ruining another of their treasured childhood memories. And one look at the trailer will tell you why!

If you're looking for the very best Christmas movies, I can happily recommend The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), a spooky Tim Burton animated movie; classic comedy Trading Places (1983), with Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy; and Scrooged (1988), with Bill Murray as a nasty TV executive who discovers the true meaning of Christmas thanks to some very funny ghosts.

Have a merry Christmas and watch out for the turkeys!
