An interesting life
20.09.2011
I grew up in Ireland, spent a few years in Central Europe and now live in Los Angeles. So of course I have family and friends all over the world.
I love to share my life with them by writing about it and sending them photos, and they always tell me I have an interesting life. Well, you know what I just realized? My life is more interesting simply because I record it. I often do things just so I will have something new to write about and new photos to share.
Sometimes as a teenager, you don’t have a lot of freedom. You have to live at home and go to school every day. That’s hardly a bad thing but it can be frustrating at times. When you get older, you will have more control over your life and hopefully be able to study and work at something you love.
The future is something to look forward to, but that’s no reason not to make the most of your life now. Look at Olivia Bee. She’s just a normal teenager who started keeping a photo-diary of her teen years and has now had her work published in the world’s biggest magazines. I interviewed her last year for Spot on and she said that by taking photos, she’s learned to look at her life in a new way.
Well, I’m no Olivia Bee, but I also love to take photos and to pose for fun photos for my best friend, who is a professional photographer. This month, we made our first film so I’d have something special to share with another close friend. It was such a fun, creative experience. Now we’re working on a Halloween film and have already taken footage of a house in our neighbourhood that was in the 1978 Halloween film.
You might think your life is pretty boring but just see what happens when you start to capture it in writing, in photos or on film. I bet you’ll discover that it's a lot more fun and colourful than you ever realized.
